Tim Carey, J.D., serves at the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence as a Law & Policy Staff Attorney. He is responsible for working with the Senior Director of Law & Policy to analyze and draft legislation, perform legal research and writing, and find ways to make complex legal information accessible to others.

Before joining the CSGV team, Tim was deeply involved in child welfare law. He was a Child Advocacy attorney in Baltimore, Maryland, representing children ages 0-21 in abuse and neglect cases, and was introduced to legislative work as a child welfare policy advocate in Georgia. Tim was drawn to CSGV after witnessing the irreparable damage gun violence causes to the youth and communities he has served.

A native to Maryland, Tim received his bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in Philosophy and Psychology, focusing his research on social justice education. He earned his juris doctorate from Emory University School of Law in 2018 and specialized in child welfare, mental health, and civil rights law. When he’s not immersed in legal materials, you can find Tim running, playing music, and caring for rescue animals.
