Los Angeles, CA—On Thursday, Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer will be joined at a press conference by gun violence survivors and Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence (Ed Fund) executive director Josh Horwitz to discuss implementation of California’s Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO) law. Feuer will also announce the launch of a program to aid individuals in obtaining a GVRO with the assistance of pro-bono lawyers, and speak about efforts to enact GVRO laws in other jurisdictions around the country.
California’s groundbreaking GVRO law took effect on January 1, 2016 and provides an important tool for immediate family members and law enforcement to temporarily disarm individuals that are known to be at a heightened risk of violence to self and/or others.
